Volunteer Opportunities

Each year, hundreds of volunteers give time to Pilgrims Hospice. They are the lifeblood of the organization and embrace the philosophy that recognizes dying as a natural and personal event rather than a medical one.

About 150 registered volunteers work in a wide range of capacities ranging from companions and volunteer visitors to cooks, support program aids and receptionists. More than 200 give time to episodic activities including fundraising, special event planning and the raising of public awareness.

We need many different types of volunteers and we work hard to appeal to people’s interests and enable them to use their skill sets in ways they find rewarding. Those who become involved in giving care complete a 25 hour training program.

You can choose to volunteer in:

Direct Care Programs that include:

  • Children's Grief/Expressive Arts Programs
  • Children's Summer Camps
  • Adult Respite Day Program
  • Home-based Volunteer Visiting
  • Home-based Respite Program for families of children with life-limiting illnesses
  • Drivers for Clients: 1.5 hour shifts available, mileage reimbursed

Support Programs that include:

  • Reception Desk
  • Kitchen Support; assisting in meal prep for Day Program, serving lunch, and washing dishes
  • Special Events
  • We also welcome practicum students from various disciplines to participate in our programs
